I noted that the original poster hasn't posted anything since the original. It would be very helpful if he would,at least, measure, or have someone else do so,the inside diameter of the chamber near the extractor.Of course a chambercast is best, but we could , at least,ID the family of cartridges it is chambered for. This measurement should be either in thousanths of an inch or in tenths of mm. Ford, he's not in the lap of luxury with time as you are and appears to be consumed with work. Additional info will be forth coming. Will you accept the measurements in ångströms?
Kind Regards,

There following are direct measurements in the tube:
Rim measurement at breech - 12mm
Length of chamber to rifling - 47.5mm
How 'bout 8.15X46 1/2 R?
Gives a straight walled case
Kind Regards,

Yes Raimey, the Frohn-Patrone seems to be the closest. What a pleasant surprise.
With kind regards, Jani

Raimey, Its not a matter of what is acceptable to me,those dimensions would match the ones shown for cartridges in the several references.Of course, I guess you could measure it in chains, if you tried hard enough. What about Rods?It would be a pretty small fraction though. I agree with Jani that it is likely 8.15X46R.Even though this cartridge was mostly a target cartridge,it was also used for Reh(Roe)hunting as evidenced by being in a drilling. One of my German friends used a drilling,so chambered,at least to the 1980s, to deadly effect( always a neck shot at base of the skull). if I remember correctly, 8.15x46 was one of the favourite calibers of poachers in the Bavarian/Austrian mountains. I have seen a fold-up/take down single shot hammer rifle (about 18 inches folded ) with a snap-on thin rifle scope. The hammer is the type you find on a H&R single barrel shotgun or a 1911) It had a thin sling - when taken down you had two pieces connected with the sling - you would hang the sling around your neck and had the two pieces dangling left and right under your coat. That's how the poacher would carry it without attracting attention. This gun probably dates back to the early 1900's but was used well into the 1980's edit: until the poacher was caught!
