I got around to counting little holes in cardboard this weekend. It held 120 (~70%) & 126 (~74%) pellets out of ~170 (1 oz #5's) in a 30" circle at 30yds.

I felt pretty good about this, so I broke out the clay bird thrower. I only broke 4/8. I was pulling the string myself, but that usually doesn't affect me too bad and I don't feel like I was distracted by the hammers (I don't really recall seeing them at all). It was getting cold, so I'll go with that and the relatively tight patterns as why I went 50%.

I'm going to load up some 7's tonight and see how they do. Maybe I just need more pieces of lead in the air...

BTW: regarding the W W. mark, I would guess it's the stockmaker's mark.

Nigel Brown has a William Walker, Stockmaker, working in Birmingham in 1855, and there are many other craftsmen listed in his book who could have have gone by the initials W W.

Is there any reason to assume that Mullin made any part of this gun?

Doesn't it carry full Birmingham proof marks? Would the proof house do that to just a barreled action?

Or am I getting my proof marks mixed up here?

I returned from North Dakota this past weekend after 2 weeks of chasing wild pheasants with the old Mullin and my new Shorthair, Jazz. I shot a limit over her on her first day of pointing - she turned 6mo old 5 days earlier. First bird dead, second she tracked down for me, and the third went into some cat tails which she came in and pointed for me. There were 2 hen points thrown in for confusions sake for the dog. Seems like she might be the makings of a bird dog...

The Mullin was throwing 1-1/8oz #5's over 3Dr of 2F, which worked quite well.

The best picture I have currently - more to come I hope

I love those ribs. My spayed female Wirehair has the same ribs, turned nine years old October 29.
