There is an intresting and balenced article in todays NY Times OPED page by Frank Rich. Worth reading and not what some of the readers of this board might expect. (based on past comments here)

I was hoping to get Tom Gresham to jump in and tell us how he keeps out of trouble. It seems like one bad comment and you are toast. He must be doing something right.

It doesn't have to be "bad." All writers in "our" magazines are pulling their punches unless it's straight-forward bucolic and descriptive. They know what happens to writers who kick against the traces. How many times have members rightly commented about the endless infomercials?

Pleeease. We all feel your pain but most on this thread seem to enjoy the commentary. If this discussion upsets you so much, why on earth don't you just pass it by instead of coming back time after time with the same complaint. It's becoming a diatribe and you're not getting much support, so why not just "kick it to the curb" and move on. There's always shootingsportsman.com if you want some truly tired discourse.

I should have also noted that while you may be partly correct in that we may be "using Dave's money", many of us also make a monetary contribution every year to keep this site up and running. At least I have for the few years that I've been around. So OT or not, if it's an interesting topic it belongs here IMHO.

It is amazing what happens in a "free society". A gun writer is trashed by his own audience. A multi-millionaire shock jock is smacked by the suits that grew richer every time he opened his mouth.

It really is not about "free speech" at all. It is about the corporate bottom line. As long as the nightly ratings for Imus looked good, the suits were happy. Until he finally inserted both feet, then they don't want him around.

If Imus was earning the estimated $10 million a year that is being reported, you can be sure his bosses were making even more. Yet no one howls for their heads? They will simply replace this excuse for an entertainer with another, younger version. One who will be sure not to fall on his own sword so readily.

Under the guise of "pushing the envelope" the corporate profits will continue to pour in.

I in no way endorse this Imus. I think I listened to his "show" once for about 2 minutes then voted by turning the dial. I find his "approach" abhorrent. He should have been quietly let go years ago. He just made too much money for his bosses for them to be reasonable men.
