I've heard a bit and read in Walt's book about variations at the very end of NID production. Well, yesterday I bought a 1947 Nid 16G Field Grade in near 100% new original condition. When I got it home and did a close review I found these "oddities":
1. No Ithaca name anywhere
2. No engraving
3. 7lbs-3oz
4. 28" barrels marked 2-4 that mike .010 and .020 on .665 bores
5. 2 9/16" Chambers
6. No proof marks
7. Short splinter forend with "finger release latch" (D&E?)
It may be interesting to share observations on other late guns. I think this one was made from what every they had laying around and left over. What do you think?
