Hoppes #9 I have bought 2 gallons since 1984 still have 1/2 gal left. For lubrication and rust suppression I mix mineral spirits and mineral oil with 1% 30w non det oil . I found Kroil penetrates the wood to aggressively

Hoppes #9 forever! You're shooting a traditional firearm so use a traditional cleaner. It works great too.

Is the Hoppe's being sold today the same as years gone by? I don't think the modern stuff smells the same as what I remember

What in the hell are you guys shooting that requires industrial chemicals to clean from polished steel?

I use Rem Oil, and only Rem Oil, with a tight fitting bronze brush on a stout aluminum rod.

The 410 requires rotary drive with a 50 caliber brush, but the other gauges get squeaky clean.

Choke tubes get the drill press/tight brush treatment once in a while, but nothing is required to dissolve the plastic. The brush does just fine.

Yesterday I tried Hoppes Benchrest 9 Copper solvent and it shortly became sticky, almost tar like. Never again.

I really like Shooter's Choice bore and choke tube cleaner #7.

Hoppe's #9. I would really miss the aroma if I changed to anything else!

I had one of the large glass bottles of Hoppes #9 that I inadvertently left in a box in an attic for several years. It went through several brutally hot summers and brutally cold winters. The stuff turned to varnish and lost its' typical pleasant aroma. A bottle of shooters choice (before the #7) in the same box didn't turn to varnish. Odd, but I lost faith in Hoppes after this inadvertent "experiment".

I always use Hoppe's No. 9 and, for copper fouling, Sweet's.

+1 on the Shooters Choice.

My father recently turned over the last remnants of his gun closet to me, including two old half full bottles of #9. No telling how old this stuff was, but at least 30 years old. Still works good and smells like it did when I was a teenager.

Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.
