Hoppe's No. 9= in a well ventilated area of course. The scent reminds me of the banana oil based "dope' we put on the tissue covered wings of the WW1 Bi-planes I built as a youth--

Areokroil. That stuff is amazing. Primary use is to loosen heavily neglected and rusted bolts and screws, but it works out heavy fouling just as well. Make sure you disassemble the gun first as you do not want to get any of it on the wood. Spray down the barrel or use a patch, let sit for a couple of minutes and then have at it with a brush and follow up with a couple patches. Cleans it right out.

I use Automatic Transmission Fluid which has great anticorrosive properties. MY BPCR friends introduced it to me which is what they use. I use it for cleaning bores and preservation. NEVER had any rust or corrosion from using it.

I use my own mix of Eds Red it works brilliantly and costs practically next to nothing to make it by the gallon. Just give it a try I bet you wont go back to your expensive fancy named potions!!!

I also use an "Ed's Red" mixture, which is heavy in AT fluid. It indeed works great, and is inexpensive when you mix it yourself.

Outer's Nitro Solvent Gun Cleaner. Very hard to find. But, I now have a lifetime supply. Makes even bad bores look good. Bob Jurewicz
