The gun to do is the Remington hammerless double 1894 in AE grade. You can redo the damascus barrels and have plenty of room on the action for whatever engraving you like. They're really one of the best of the Gilded Age guns!

Lowell ---- you're gonna get me in trouble here. I happen to own a 1900 Rem and had the same thought at one time -- fortunately everyone was talking about Sterlingworth upgrades so I forgot it. Now you start up with this kinda talk --- you better not get me started. Ken

Wow, those are amazingly beautiful examples. Thanks everyone for going to the trouble to post pics. Stunning, all. Glad to see that upgrades are more popular than I thought, especially if it's a lower grade gun and you plan on keeping it. It also seems that upgrading doesn't seem to hurt resale value if done well. The upgraded LC on gunbroker recently went for over $5k did it not?

Mark, My first upgrade was a FE Lefever I bought for $600 with a broken stock which I bought from Russ Gould. I was pleased to get the gun. Keith Keacher restocked it and it shoots very well. I then had a Model 97 Winchester redone by Norman Jackson and Bob Valade's son Patrick, it is a very different piece. I currently have a 1899 G Lefever being redone by Dennis Earl Smith, metal by C.G.I., myself, and the barrels by Keacher. I am hoping by the Shoot on July 15 to have an H that is being redone by Doug Mann, Ken Hurst, C.G.I. and with Black - white barrels on display. Do I feel it is worth re-doing or upgrading classic guns? Yes - Are the worth the money? to me yes to others - who really cares- It is what I enjoy doing? Will I do other guns? perhaps, We'll see how the current project comes out. As yourself, I like the Lefever look. I'll stop by and talk to you about this sometime. John
Currently own two Morgan cars. Starting on Black Powder hunting to advoid the mob of riflemen.

Please do Jas, I would enjoy that very much. Is the July 15 shoot at Mitchell's?

Ken Hurst is doing something wonderful to a gun of his..If I remember right it was a plainish old gun to start with..perhaps a Baker Batavia something or other...sorry for if I'm wrong Ken. But he posted a work in progress a while back, & it looked stunning. Throw up that Pic again Ken, to show what can be done. But there again, he's doing it himself.....I'd imagine work like he did on his would be pretty expensive..unless you have some dirt on the engraver..hah hah. I rember being knocked out by the look of Kens Gun...whatever it was,it seemed to be the right one for him..awesome cheers franc

Ken, Charles Semmer did an DGJ article on aftermarket engraving of Remington hammerless doubles.
