I know, lets all order 16br O/Us with DTs and 32" fixed choke barrels. Gee, do you think there is a reason O/U dominate sport shooting events? Why stop with stupid 30" tubes on a sxs and not go all they way toward shotgunning utopia?

No matter how many pages of drivel - the XXV has fallen out of favor with shooters.
More than just fashion it was.

If you can shoot, you can shoot. My results are inconsistent no matter the length.

I so thoroughly enjoyed reading this ancient thread on the merits of Churchill's XXV (Brown's Addison to Maloney's Steele), that I went out and bought both their books. Along with Diggory's and Macdonald Hasting's edition of Churchill's "Game Shooting". Sometimes the World Wide Web can be a friendly and inviting place. Now what can I sell to aquire an XXV?

Hi all, kind of fun looking back. I've used my Churchill XXV (Premiere Model) for quite a few hunts and I simply love this gun. Short bbls and all. Of course I'm not a tall guy, so those bbls fit me just fine. I'm a happy camper with 25" bbls.

Best!

Greg

Greg, is the forend shortened on the XXV? I always thought the gun would look out of proportion with a standard splinter game gun forend, but your gun looks very well balanced considering the 25 inch barrels.

Hi and thanks for the kind words. This one was restocked by The Stock Dr. Dennis did a wonderful job on it and the wood is really nice. To answer your question, yes the forend is shorter than a normal splinter.

Best!

Greg

Thanks for reviving this vintage thread.
An image of a youngish and thin Robert Churchill explains a lot. He did become rotund later in life - see the cover of the his 1955 "Game Shooting". Note the left hand is fully extended and at least from this angle the gun appears to have a long LOP

Nice discussion of the Stanbury and Churchill methods here, by Michael Yardley
