The Zumbo and Imus cases cannot be compared. Zumbo expressed an opinion about particular firearms and was fired by his sponsors for it. Imus crossed the line of common decency and was fired by his sponsors for it. I believe Sharpton and Jackson are activist preacher politician celebrities. They'd be fired too if they made racist remarks as media persons living at the whim of sponsors. Because the language of public discourse daily becomes more disgusting.

(Jimmy opens the door and starts to step in only to be severely startled by several tables and chairs flying across the room; then a slightly pimpled faced old lady sails head over heels, through the air and crashes through the mirror behind the bar and resides painfully on a shelf of broken shot glasses; a bullet pierces the nipple area in a huge picture of Jersey Lilly hanging behind the bar. One gent gets a bottle smashed across his face, extracting several teeth and causing him to grab his jowls in screaming pain. Two galloots then pick up a slightly cross-eyed patron by the hair and proceed to throw him through the front window, decorating two scattering nuns with slivers of colorful glass...... So Jimmy turns and tiptoes back down the sidewalk as nonchalantly as he had entered, with his hands in his pockets, whistling, "Sweet Georgia Brown" until he reaches the road and hitches a ride back home with two illiterate itinerant dirt farmers.)

rabbit has noticed lately that Jimmy appears to be a third person. A number of commentaters have made the observation that the glorification of criminality and the "culture of self-loathing" 24/7/365 are not the creation of Imus but only another useful poison in his spew. Imus shows remorse you bet; he'll have to get Sirius and his fans pay to hear. Snoop Dog says his now famous epithet wasn't intended to apply to college girls with roundball talent. Mr. Rogers' bow tie a sloppy fit on either.

.....seems to me that the firing of Don Imus was an exercise in free speech....the free speech of his advertisers.....how much should Staples, GM, etc....pay to keep statements like "snappy headed ho's" on the air?....
