In proof or out of proof is more a question for our British posters. So if it is .001-.003 thousands out of proof it only matter if you are trying to sell it where proof laws are accepted and enforced, which is not in the US. The real question that you have already answered is is it safe to shoot. The barrels are clean, with no pitting and have good thickness. You understand what a proper diet shell wise this gun should be getting. So you should be good to go. And I agree that is a very fine looking gun.

Terry, can you tell us where we can find the chart of dimensions for the British proof? I have one around here somewhere, but can't find it.

There are some American buyers who will also back away from an out of proof gun, or at least offer less money for one. But as far as shooting goes, as long as "out of proof" is based strictly on bore diameter but barrel wall thickness is still good, it's not an issue.

An American buyer who backs away from an out of proof gun and doesn't own a wall thickness gauge is not an informed buyer. This gun is right at the nominal ten gauge bore size and may never have been cleaned up. The British .775 plug may not have fit in this gun, hence, the 11-1 bore size marking. Great gun, Craig.

Bill couldn't agree more, the walls on this gun are .140 in front of the forcing cones and .080 at 9" from the breech. The .035 spot is a about 5" from the muzzle. That is good enough for me in that I handload 2 7/8" shells to 4800psi. I own the Galazan $450, professional bore gauge. The W&C Scott Monte Carlo seems like an excellent buy in the US. When new in 1899 this gun was in the same price range as a Parker BH. They are a lot of gun for the money and I am trilled to have a 10bore. In the 1880's and 1890's they seemed to have been the choice of many serious pigeon shooters.
