Craig,if the bore measurements are correct the barrels are just out of proof. 11/1 covers bores up to .775. Suggests that some fine boring has occurred, probably to cleanup frosting near the chambers. the nitro proof marks are circa 1896-1904

Craig, if you are using a ball type bore gauge and calibrating it with a .700 ring I have found that when measuring a 10 bore the reading will be .003 to .005 larger than it actually is. Possibly even more. I lathe made a .775 adjusting ring to eliminate this "creeping" error. I think the error is due to the fact that as the three balls extend out in a larger bore the measuring rod that extends to the dial caliper does not change in a direct ratio to the movement. Clear as mud? Just trust me there is a significant error....
With a .700 ring I find that if a bore is only .729 there is a couple thousanths error due to the balls.

Thanks Joe but I am using a Galazan bore gauge with a .775 ring. I believe the measurements are accurate. I am sure Terry is correct in his assessment they were lightly honed in the past. They still have great wall thickness in front of the chambers and 9" from the breech. Boy does it shoot great patterns!

Joe if you will calibrate your bore gauge with the .700 range and then use it to measure the ID of the .750 calibration ring you can tell Craig exactly how much the error is.
I am glad to be here.

Gentlemen;
I have both a English made very best quality multi-gauge bore gage and the less expensive USA made bore gauge with 3 balls. Both measure the same.

If you set a dial bore gage to a setting ring & it doesn't read correct over its entire range it Ain't Much of a Gage. I used a bunch of dial bore gages working as a machinist for 35+ years & they all had a single setting ring per gage & would read any size to which they would contract or expand accurately.

BTW Craig, that is a very fine shotgun.Congrats if you are the owner. Love the rounded bar action and great condition. Wouldn't loose sleep over the slightly out of proof...
