Don Imus shouldn't have been fired for this. Mean comment. Racist? Not really. I have discussed it with a few black friends, and they said it was offensive, but they didn't think it was racist. What really pisses me off is how whenever the media plays the clip, they play the sentence where he calls the team a bunch of "nappy headed hos" but leaves out the next sentence where he calls the Tennesse team a group of real good looking girls. Does that make it all ok? No. But it changes things. Don Imus should have been fired for a number of other comments over the years. Such as:
Referring to an individual as a "Boner nosed, beanie wearing Jew boy."
Or when he called someone else a "Thieving Jew" and then apologized by saying that his statement was redundant!
In my opinion these comments are worse than the current uproar. Seems like there is a DOUBLE (does that make it on topic?) standard here. People can speak all sorts of ill about Jews, and even Mexicans, but as soon as one says something about Black people-a mob forms.
I am a student at Boston College, and a member of College Republicans. We had a particularly conservative African American man come speak. He spoke against affirmative action, talked abotu how much he hated Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, and about the double standard. It was very interesting and VERY controvesial.
