Assuming the same clothing, etc., how much difference in LOP is discernable? My guns seem to range from 14-1/8" to 13-7/8". One of the shorter guns has a 1/4" spacer under the pad that I'd like to remove, but that would make it 13-3/8" - too short I'm thinking. Opinions?

when you hit your nose with your thumb - its too short
I have noticed that if the drop is the same - i can go a 1/2 inch or more shorter in LOP than my normal guns and still do about the same on clays - for upland hunting - I need to stay closer my fit.

I'm not sure if there is a hard and fast rule or if it is specific to the shooter, but I find if it's more then a 1/2" to 1/4" off I'm in trouble.

I can shoot anything from 14 3/8" to 15 1/4". I prefer around 14 3/4" for hunting, 15 1/4" for pre-mounted clays.
13 3/8" is pretty short, but if your arms are short enough it may work.
I can discern 1/4", but it doesn't necessarily affect my shooting.

1/4" longer than my ideal LOP is about where I have to slightly adjust my shooting. 3/8" too long and my low gun shooting suffers. Shorter LOP from my ideal is less noticeable and seems to not have an effect until about 1" short.

If your sighting plane is not adversely affected, and your nose doesn't hit your thumb in recoil, then fine. Short stocks generally shoot higher...

Duh; I can't subtract. 13-7/8" - 1/4" = 13-5/8", not 13-3/8".

My experience says it is shooter specific. Remove the spacer and test it out. Then leave the spacer out or reinstall it.

I have shot guns of the same LOP that feel very short and I think it's because of how the configuration of the grip and trigger position my hand and therefore my thumb. I guess, to me, the distance between my thumb and nose is more important than the actually LOP. One wouldn't think that measurement would make a difference on a straight-stocked gun, but it does for me.
To answer your question, I think that measurement will have more if an impact than 1/8" - 1/4" LOP, but that's just my experience.
