Saw the pics. I don't have a BSS here for comparison, but it looks legit to me. Per Browning website, date code is 1977 but type code does not make any sense. http://www.browning.com/customerservice/dategun/detail.asp?id=26Nice gun, good pics.

Just looked at it now, engraving looks much shallower than on an original blued frame. I'm also thinking after-market case coloring with the original finish polished away and some loss of engraving depth.

what about serial no ending with 128? brownings web says 20ga end with 168..maqybe it was made for Canada or Europe with factory swivels,double triggers
