Those essentially "classic" styled stocks simply cannot be improved on. Thumb holes, Monte Carlo, roll over cheek rests, all the rest....shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath.

S.A. Leonard of NYC, I believe that the metal work was done by George Hyde a former G&H worker. There are rifles marked "Leonard & Hyde" and they worked together on the Roberts and Kimball rifles.

Dan, The checkering pattern looks a lot like the one Shelhamer used but the stock does not look like his to me. I'll try to find a picture. Sorry I don't remember whose pictures this is, may be a member here.

Michael, does this gun have a cheek piece and any chance you have a picture of the left side?

Thanks Michael, I have seen a very similar checkering pattern on a shelhamer stocked 03 that was in a Neidner add, Jan. 1929 American Rifleman I think, may-be 1926. The size of the stock is very scaled down, Fits a 10 year old child about right. Makes it tough to compare to anything else. Forend and grip are made of horn. Same dark finish as the picture you posted. Dan.

Dan,
Next time you come to town bring it along and we can do an do some side by side comparisons.
One of the most unattractive rifles I have ever see was done by Shelhamer. I think it was made for a person who was missing most of his fingers on the right hand.

LFR,
No cheek piece and don't seem to have a shot of the left side. If you have seen others by this maker and think it important I'll do the other side.
