Most of the guns I deal with are English or Euro. They generally didn't include that extra hole. Probably because they didn't see the need for one, with a good solder job in the first place.
I don't think this is a mountain vs. molehill issue. I'm talking potential and common sense. If you don't operate in that fashion, it makes little difference to me, others may.
