January is only half-way done and already I'm antsy to go bird hunting again. I'm all healed-up from my elk hunting adventures and looking for more fun. What's a fella to do? There aren't any birds to shoot in Colorado this year to speak of, so I suppose a field trip is warrented. What do folks do to get through the long, cold winter? Ice fishing is largely out here as well: no real water!

You folks in the South have a definite leg-up on the snow-bound folks.

Duck season is going strong here (LA), we hit it right Friday wind, very low clouds. Pin birds in the decoys, gadwalls in close, lots of teal and of course someone shot a duck with a big smile!
Also noted a large flight of ringnecks! 3 guys , 3 limits!

Well,
I skeet/trap shoot every Tuesday morning and every Thursday afternoon.

I try to hunt at least once a week.

I pistol shoot on Wednesday mornings and rifle shoot if the wind
is not howling.

I reload when the weather is too bad (wind and canoe do not mix)
to be out.

Very few quail or pheasants left here.

Come on down to Amarillo and we will shoot something fun.

Mike

My fall-back is usually an inexpensive gun project (an oxy-moron of sorts, I know!) and/or a trip to a local pet'n shoot. What I'd like to try this year is a couple of side trips out of the snow-belt. Either pigs in Texas or quail in Arizona? Still working on logistics for both/either. All it takes is time and money. I should shoot more clay games but......it just doesn't do it for me. If it isn't food-gathering, it just isn't the same. This Fall was just lovely, and it always leaves me a little lost at the end of the season.

Thank you Researcher, doesn't sound half-bad. Unfortunately, work and family don't allow for that particular schedule to be met. With a little planning, maybe next year?

Still doing a little damage in my neighborhood. That would be me with my chocolate Tolley on a salt marsh south of Vancouver B.C.

Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought stupid, than open it and confirm.

Looking forward to a restoration project on a .410, coming from Idaho. The truck's on the road! Feel like a 5 yr old, waiting for Santa.

Our bird season is looking like a bust with the drought/fire conditions closing most public lands. I'd like to sneak out for another "armed stroll" before the 26th, tho.

Meanwhile, I'm refinishing a stock on an otherwise cherry Remington 722 that somebody mungled with a glued-on cheekpiece. I always wanted a Big Magnum Rifle! And compared to my .22WRMs, this .222 Remington MAGNUM is just that!

Gonna be handloading a lot--need to work up "unleaded bullet" loads for the 3 rifles I hunt with; not easy if you use traditional single shots. My combination gun has a .308 rifle barrel, so that's taken care of.

Getting rigged up for some deep sea fishing; trout fishing will require fresh water, which right now, we don't have. Salt, we got.

Gun project?
Just finishing up fitting 20, 28 and 410 barrels to an old
Browning 12 gauge Superposed. Barrels are fitted to the action. Got most of the metal done on a spare forend, all that is left is to weld one part on the 20 gauge set of barrels and then fit it. Shot the 20 gauge today but the upper ejector would not
always set. So will extend the ejector extension. smile

I love 222 Mags!! I have 2 in Rem 40-X, one a Rangemaster and one a BBR.
Also have two 40-XBBR in 6x47, SWEET
