One story has step by step design of the butt end as done by London gunmakers. The method employs a series of circles and works quite nicely.
Your is quite narrow at the toe and abrupt in the transition.

Yes the toe is tight but I will say that portion of the design is a dead copy of the Whelen design at a .312R. The sides from the toe up about 1/3 of the way are to allow fitting, along the lower 1/3 of the butt. I was not exactly sure how I want that to come up. So better leave stock now then not have it.
Some of this has been a exercise in parametric design with a plan to use it on a M70 stock I am building using a semi inlet I bought from a forum member. Normally I hate semi inlets as they, IMO, are more difficult then working from a blank, however the wood was so nice and the cost so attractive I had to buy it.

Here is the first machined prototype. I used aluminum just for this test and prototype. In reality it will either be steel or horn.

The first is the outside machined (screw holes not finished for this first part) and then rough polished. The next is the hallowed out inside of the plate to remove material weight. (if horn I won't hallow out the plate as in the second pic)
The over all shape matches the Whelen plate quite closely. It is wider then the M70 which is about .100" narrower. I will probably modify the design to more reflect the M70. The cross sectional profiles are near perfect and I am very pleased with them.

Even though I don't have a problem with rubber butt plates(if everyone had the same taste, there would only be one color car and one happy woman in the world), I want to compliment you on your very nice work.
