Last year I disposed of over twenty-feet of auction catalogs (to the dump) before throwing them out I removed items of interest to myself and others doing research. I am interest in all American custom gunmakers 1885-1940 rifle and shotgun. I sent stuff to the Daly, Sauer people and others that I know about working on projects.

I just pulled twenty years of American Rifleman and saved about seven issues. Over the next year I will go through fifty years of sale catalogs from the likes of Fladerman, Museum of Historical Arms, Dixie and the like. If I am aware of your research and see something in the filed I will pull it. Please let me know what your researching and your REAL NAME, sorry I just can’t remember all the cartoon names, you can do this by PM if you wish.

I am trying to complete my collection of “Arms and The Man” 1906-1923, I have several duplicates that I would trade for ones I don’t have, likewise with “Outer’s Book”.

I also need the serial number from a rifle posted in August, 1922 Field and Stream, anyone have this issue.

Speak up or it will go to the dump.

It is with a tear in my eye that I often contemplate the final resting place of my research files. I would give anything to have had what I have now thirty years ago when I may have had some chance to use it all. Bill Murphy

Bill,

I have no regrets in this matter, as a young man I actually took advice and bought the books first. Many of the people I have researched I found that their personal papers when to the landfill. David Kirkwood had one of the largest collections of firearms related books in the USA at his time of death, they went to the local library. The collection was so large there was a newspaper article about it. I check with the library twenty-five years ago and at that time they were all gone, could not even tell me where.

I would like to know that my research material will be accessible to the public so it will not go to the NRA, not ever. In my will I have left all my records, correspondence, files, photos, taped interviews, and computer files to the Rifled Arms Association (can’t remember their proper name) and if they are not still working at that time to the ASSRA hoping they will find a replacement of the same caliber as Rudi Prusok.

My reference library, both books and guns will go to auction so others can have the same fun with them as I did.

I wish we had more access to the Rifled Arms Association. A few years ago, they sounded like they were going to be an open receptacle (both ways)for custom gunmaker research. The single shot rife association seems to be doing it the right way, but, as you say, it takes a caretaker with a good computer knowledge to insure that the material is available.

I know exactly what you saying, I have been both delighted and disappointed with the RAA. The man in charge of the records does not have a computer. It’s getting harder and harder to find what I’m looking for around here so I’m trying to cut down on the clutter a little bit. Last year I tried to put my books in order and found I had over 150 duplicates, I advertised them in lots on Ebay and what did not sell I gave to the local library. This morning I moved a box and found three extra copies of Sharpe’s Handloading, seldom look at the one, sure as heck don’t need four. Time for another big book sale ;-).

I'm thinking about putting some lower end duplicates on this site in the For Sale section. I guess there is a better way to sell duplicates that are not double gun oriented however. Gun shows have been a terrible place to sell books in my experience. Murphy

Michael:
I am interested in the Phila. Golchers. Especially in George W. and Thomas L.
Thanks for offering to share.

John

John, I hope MP sent his Golcher material to Ken Georgi along with the Lindner work. Both of my Thomas Golchers are Lindner made guns and I think I remember you saying that your Golchers were also Lindners.
