I know we're drifting off topic from the original intent of this thread, so my apologies to the OP.

The lack of published info available on the Baker Gun & Forging Co and their guns is something that's bugged me for years. I'd be happy to assist in any way necessary with developing and maintaining a Baker website.

I've been collecting info/pics/etc for years and just recently have started to deposit it here:

https://sites.google.com/site/bakerguns/home

But this is just a simple site and area to publish stuff that I run across. In my opinion, the "Baker Community" needs a well run and high quality site along the lines of the Parker, Fox, LC Smith, Ithaca, and Lefever collectors.

Thanks to all who responded. This is a very fine example that I have admired for a good many years when it wasn't for sale. Now that it is I want to learn more about it & other Bakers. I have one other Baker which is a sidelock double marked "Baker Gun Co." with scroll engraving and a setter on the left lock and mor scroll engraving with bobwhit quail on the right. I was told that the model was "PARAGON" when I bought it. The word "PARAGON" marked on the left side of the underlug under the serial number which is 201171F. The word "PARAGON EJECTOR" is also marked on the water table. It is 12 bore with 26 inch barrels, pistol grip stock & snap-on forearm. All info from this board is greatly appreciated.

Best Regards, George

My dad is in town visiting and brought with him a Baker Single Barreled Trap Gun that he got off of gunbroker a couple of months ago. We thought we would post some pictures in hopes of learning more about it and I thought that instead of starting a new thread, I would just add on.

The barrel has an interesting amount of forging involved, you can see how the contour changes just in front of the forend.

As well as by the receiver

Any information would be much appreciated.

Thanks

What is the serial number ? It looks like an earlier Sterling grade. Buttstock appears to be a replacement. Interestingly, the early single traps had the barrel, breech, and vent rib machined out of one piece of steel. Quite a job.

Yes, it is marked Sterling, and the serial number is 42573.
I wondered how much machining was done, to make the barrel
breech and vent rib from one piece is a lot of machining. It is really quite the interesting shotgun.

I'd suggest a date from 1914-1915, give or take a year.

Bringing this back from the dead, there's a Sterling SBT offered here locally, 425xx, straight stock w/cheekpiece, vent rib.

Assuming VG condition where's the market settled at for these?
