Our North American Ammunition Companies seem to be continually trying to streamline and simplify their offerings. Looking through a lot of my old ammunition catalogues it seems No. 1 size shot was gone pretty soon after WW-I and the offerings of No. 3 were becoming few. During the 1930s No. 3 shot seems to disappear even with Elmer's love of it in his Ithaca NID Magnum-Ten!! In the early 1940s Western Cartridge Co. still offered a lot of loads with No. 7 shot, both chilled and Lubaloy but by the May 4, 1949, Western Cartirdge Co. price list only two loads are still being offered with No. 7. By the January 3, 1950, Western Cartridge Co. Price List load P267L is gone and load XT297 is "*Discontinued. Will be supplied until stock is exhausted." No. 10 and finer shot also has pretty much disappeared from our loading companies offerings. Seems like they tried to do away with No. 5 but it seems to be hanging in there with a few loads still being offered.
