I know this belongs in the mis-fires forum but there are so many grumpy people over there that I decided to put it here. Sorry about that Dave.
Hi all yall, the adventure begins. On November 23rd, in the face of an early winter storm, I started my RV adventure with a journey/shakedown trip to Tucson, my new home until April. The RV is a work in progress and had no engine-heat powered heater. However, having been brought up in the mid-west and being of Norwegian ancestry I wasnt worried about cold, thats what snow-mobile suits are for, but dang having to pull over every 10 miles or so to scrap ice off the windshield sure got old! Nonetheless I rolled into the Tucson Trap & Skeet Club RV Park at 3:00pm on Monday November 25th. After taking one day to set up my RV and get some rest, I got in my Dodge Caravan and, leaving the RV in Tucson, I drove 500 miles to LA so I could spend Thanksgiving with my daughter. I drove back to Tucson yesterday and as soon as my right knee recovers from gas pedal syndrome (probably by tomorrow) Ill begin hunting and shooting. Let the wild rumpus begin!
I plan to continue the RV renovation (Ill definitely fix the damned heater) over the next 5 months while Im in Tucson and then Ill be off, at a leisurely pace via many national parks, to Washington State (my late wife wanted her ashes scattered at a beautiful place in the PNW) followed by several months of upland hunting in eastern WA, ID, MT, and the Dakotas before I head back south.
Like the fellow shouted on his way down after jumping off a tall building SO FAR SO GOOD!!!

while on the road, suggest you find copies of "travels with Charley" by Steinbeck and "a hunters road" by Fergus. both are wonderful books written by others who did what you are doing. stay safe, enjoy, and do keep us posted on your adventures.

Ah Ed- it is properly written "Travels with Charley" by John Steinbeck- I don't believe you ever read it, as I have many times, being an avid Steinbeck reader- ditto Hemingway and Faulkner and John Dos Passos as well- What was the breed of his dog "Charley"- and no "Barney Google websearch crap"--I would think you might have read Kerouac novel about life on the road-- John Kerouac was a drug wasted pisshead, much like I perceive you to be, with very little touch with the reality of life--

In addition to Steinbeck and Fergus as suggested by Ed, you might also consider four other great "Road Trip" novels: 'On the Road' by Jack Kerouac, 'Wild America' by Roger Tory Peterson, and 'Lolita' by Vladimir Nabokov. Then there's 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance' by Robert Persig...Geo

Another good one is "On the Wings of a North Wind" by Michael Furtman and "Blue Highways" and "River Horse" by William Leastheat Moon. This fall was my BinL's first year retired so I invited him on one of my journey's. I met him in Northern WI the first of Oct and we spent two weeks chasing big Norhtern Pike and Bass, then we headed west for two weeks of bird hunting in MT and then on to the WA coast for a week of duck hunting, back to central WA for duck and coyote hunting out at the desert pothole. Then I had to put him on a plane for home so he could get back to WI for deer season. I have a Ford van set up with two bunks in the back and we set up a cook tent for eating and relaxing in. MT Pheasant Camp.  Last winter I left WA in Jan in the van and hunted coyotes in UT with a young fellow that wanted to learn to hunt coyotes, then a slow trip to NM for the Predatormasters Hunt stopping Wittenberg, AZ to take in the warmth and do some desert calling. On to Pheonix to visit some friends and enjoy some great food and Martinis. I met up with my wife in her motorhome in Demming and spent a month hunting and enjoying the NM cuisine. We spent another month and a half working our way back to WA calling more coyotes in NV. I predator hunt with a double gun also. NM coyote with my Bernardelli combo gun 5.6x50mmR Mag under 12ga.  Hunting on the road is a blast, you get to see so many places and meet great folks along the way. There is a nice campground near Bisbee AZ called The Double Adobe RV and Shooting Park. They shoot trap and sporting clays all week. When you get near WA PM me.
