The world needs more people like he was, I am sorry he is gone.
I echo this thought.
The last time I talked to Mark in person was in Las Vegas at the gun show shortly before the Linden-Whelen Springfield was to be auctioned off. He said he was only looking at things at the show because he wanted to have enough money to but the Whelen rifle.
I will always remember him telling my brother and me "Linden wasn't really the best stock maker, but he wrote the book and that helped make him famous".
Mark answered several questions I asked him via e-mails over the years and his knowledge of gun values was especially helpful. He never did agree with me that the Winchester 71 was a better looking lever action than the Savage 99 but that was probably all we ever disagreed on. The last e-mail I received from him detailed what happened at the auction of the Whelen rifle.
Although I only talked to him in person a few times I have and will miss him in the future. Mark was a great person.
