There is absolutely no reason, as in none, to ever drop anything into a bore that is is as hard or harder than the barrel.

I certainly don't know what is under the "nickel" plate and it doesn't even matter cuz it ain't ever gonna find itself in one of my guns anyway.

It may just be me, but if bronze isn't getting rid of your barrel fouling you're in way bigger trouble than a brush is gonna solve.
