Jerry Fisher makes & sells the best IMO.
Has a hinge pin in the trap tongue only, a recess for the pins ends in the body and a coil spring so the lid is removable when off the stock. He only makes a few at at time and doesn't push them. There used to be some percussion butt traps on the same hinge principal.
I get that you want to make your own and might be able to post a pic in a few days. Reread your post, his is not vintage style but a much improved type that looks vintage from the outside.
