A lot of what Ken says is why I like the plane base lead bullet game, I have control over most everything save the powder and primers.
Took me a couple years just to learn to manage the mould so I got good consistent bullets.
A few years ago a neighbor brought me a brand-new in the box Remington 700 in 30-06 and with a new scope and mounts and asked if I would mount it for him. When I was done he then said "Well you go to the range all the time can you sight it in for me". He gave me a box of Remington factory 180's. I asked if I should shoot a Moose on way home for him as well but the humor missed him.
I took the rifle to the range, I had bore sighted it at home, fist shot was on the paper at 100-yards. I carefully adjusted the scope and the next three cover-leafed into the "X" ring. I brought his rifle back and handed him the target, he said "thanks" and threw the target into the garbage can. About summed up my my thoughts on the subject....Boring ;-).
I shoot custom sporters with jacketed bullets all the time but for fun it's the Schuetzen rifle.
