Galena is the mineral commonly "smelted" into lead. Pure lead rarely occurs in nature; otherwise we would most likely have more drain bamage in this forum.  Gil

There are several reclaiming smelters operating in the US pirmarily for the battery market.

As far as lead shot goes, much of what we shoot--other than reclaimed--is already coming from foreign sources. Eagle, a very popular brand, comes from Peru.
