Todd, congratulations on a really nice Ithaca. You will want a qualified double gunsmith to service your fine shotgun. If you will post the general area of the country you live, someone can direct you to a qualified gunsmith. Here in TX, Kirk Merrington would be the one I choose.

+1 on the qualified gunsmith.

Gunter Pfrommer 540-484-5555
Rocky Mount, VA

He worked at Ithaca Classic Doubles and knows the NID design well. For any serious work or complete disassembly and servicing, I can recommend him.

Todd, Bill Schwarz in Ellijay should do you a good job with cleaning properly. He comes highly recommended on doubles and you could drive it to him from Marietta.

Congratulations on a very nice Ithaca, SRH

Beautiful gun and great find, Todd.

I wanted to comment on your cleaning products question. On older doubles like yours the finishes can be "delicate" compared to today's poly-type finishes. I would recommend a product called Ballistol. In addition to being a good general lube it is gentle on finishes (including your skin)and actually nourishes wood and leather. Google it and you'll be able to read the interesting history of the product. I would also recommend a thin coat of "high-tech" grease for the hook/pin and forend/knuckle joints. Something like Hinge Pin Jelly.

May you enjoy many years with your new friend.

Phil
