On older doubles like yours the finishes can be "delicate" compared to today's poly-type finishes. I would recommend a product called Ballistol. In addition to being a good general lube it is gentle on finishes (including your skin)and actually nourishes wood and leather. Google it and you'll be able to read the interesting history of the product. I would also recommend a thin coat of "high-tech" grease for the hook/pin and forend/knuckle joints. Something like Hinge Pin Jelly. May you enjoy many years with your new friend. Phil
