Hi franc.

The gun and case came from a friend of mine who was the grand son of the original case and gun owner who was also a game keeper and well into his seventies and still working. The case was in rather a poor state of repair being made from bent wood and during its life it had been left in some extremely damp places plus the moths had many a good meal out the felt to the point that there was very little of it left. So it was a choice of restore it or burn it loosing it for ever, so I decided to restore the inside using old reclaimed wool felt re-dyed. It was not originally lined with Baize at the time the case and gun where put together this would have been far too expensive for an Estate game keeper. After re-gluing some of its joints I used it for its original purpose a gun transport case as well as housing the gun it was originally made for.

Good to know I have some rabbit skin glue. Which is probably what they used originally on the felt and the Label.

As I have recently retired from the world of work I can now start to tackle some of the myriad of restoration jobs I have, though I will probably not live long enough to complete more than half. So in-between the restorations of a Nautical Compass Single barrel muzzle loader a Hot foil printer and the completion of two Congreve rolling Ball Clocks to name but a few. I have this 1960 vintage Pigskin gun case for my Webley & Scott 1― though the fitting in of everything will be more than a little tight and I will be using my last yard of vintage green Baize.
