I was carrying nylon rope with a foot loop in case of conibear trap emergency, but after seeing this video I'm carrying cable/zip ties.

As my Marine son says, quoting his Parris Island DI: "No such thing as too much water. Just more water than you can carry." I try to carry two plastic bottles 3/4 liter each, one on either side. It's never enough.

I also have the "botanical sampler" of at least four states....all twigs, no buds. And my dearly loved feather and hair collection.

And don't forget the odd "purple shell" when you're only carrying a 12 or a 20....I think there's still a paper one in there someplace.

Filson too hot for here. But in my mesh vest I carry a Camelback for water along with a couple more frozen water bottles in my game bag to keep birds cool and for supplemental drinking water , couple high calorie snacks, Baseplate compass and map. Signal mirror and whistle, Leatherman tool, LED head lamp, hair pick for flicking Cholla burrs off me and the dog (passed away this summer). Shell belt with full box of 20ga (we have generous limits and plenty birds some years when it actually rains with a few extra shells for the rattlesnakes). First aid kit to patch up leaks from catclaw acacia, cholla, and other assorted cacti. Wear my shooting glasses full time. Can't start a fire here for fear of burning down the state most seasons so don't usually carry fire starters. Plastic bag to pick up trash and most important - a partial roll of toilet paper.

Jay and Drew, thanks so much for the insight in terms of the CB traps. I'm going to be prepared for those from here out thanks to this thread! Rather than TP I carry 'nice wipes' for the occasional unexpected emergency.

Just type "upland vest" and do a Google search. There are countless styles.

I carry the water and a full first aid kit in the truck. On me I have some shells, matches, a bird knife, whistle, gps, parachute cord and some emergency light sticks. Some items, gps, whistle, etc are tied to the vest.

My vest is solid blaze orange to comply with state law here.

Despite hunting in trapping country, I have never run into a trap so far. Porcupines are another matter...

Pete
