The question that remains with the conversion of British pressure measurements (whether tons or bars) to psi is whether we're talking psi as measured with a transducer or as measured with a lead crusher--which gives LUP rather than psi, as 2-piper points out. We were guilty of the same thing--referring to pressures as psi--in this country back when we were measuring pressure with crushers. It's just that we started using transducers long before the Brits did. In fact, they only converted their measurements very recently. Their bars measurements, which remained part of their proof laws until about 6 years ago, were still measured with lead crushers, so you could not convert by multiplying bar x 14.5 to get psi.
