I was under the impression that all the guns built while Lefever was partnered with Ellis were muzzle loaders. The only one I have actually seen was. It was an O/U combo gun with percussion side hammers. The marking on that one placed Ellis' name first, IE Ellis & Lefever. I was unaware of guns with internal hammers, thus the side cocker, being built prior to the Nichols & Lefever partnership beginning 1876. Lefever was partnered with Ellis from 1862-67. I believe he began building breech loading hammer guns while partnered with Dangerfield between 1871 & 1874 & continued them through his partnership with Barber.
