I am looking at a gun from vintage doubles, that is a boxlock. It is inscribed H&H on the frame sides, and is being advertised as a holland and holland.. Is this correct?

If I recall correctly the H & H marked action was sometimes accompanied by "Shot & Regulated by Holland & Holland" on the rib. Maybe not the case with this one.

I would check the underside of the barrels for proof marks before accepting it as a true Holland & Holland. Probably a Belgium knockoff.

The 16 ga Vintage Doubles has is a 'shot and regulated' gun. Kirby Hoyt would NOT misrepresent a Belgium knockoff as a Holland and Holland IMHO. He's too much a stand up guy for a Mickey Mouse move like that.
Socialism is almost the worst.

Holland & Holland have sold a number of boxlocks including the Northwood (made by Birmingham maker(s)) and Cavalier models (made by W&C Scott who were for a time owned by H&H.) They were typically better Birmingham guns - which is to say very well made and plainer than London guns.
Google will bring up various links/articles

Thanks guys! I have since found that this gun was in fact made by W&C Scott.
