BTW, one of my problems in the first place may be that the rear non moving pads were filed at all in the first place. I kind of think that it should be only the front pads that are placed new and adjusted to fit the rear ones. AND it could be third-hand in ownership for all I know. The headspace adjusting screw has also been filed on, at an angle and probably to keep from having to cut the barrel rim square. Who knows. I don't think it is an issue and may not know until I see if the firing pin connects with the 22. rim in the correct manner. If the headspace has to be messed with, it will definitely be a matter of adding metal, not Devcon. Steve

It sounds like you guys pretty much have things"in hand".I never had that much trouble, even when fitting a right hand EL to the top barrel of an o/u combo gun.That was when I had to remove one screw from one of the adjusting pads.I just don't understand why the "fixed" pad at tha rear were filed at all.Maybe whoever fit them didn't realize the other side moved.

I wouldn't worry much about a bullet denting the barrel, it would impact at such an angle that it wouldn't hurt.I wouldn't think you would have trouble with headspace, it is not that crtical and you can still use the adjustment screw. If you have to move the screw, you can still cut the seat square, or file the bottom at the new location, like the other owner did. It is prefered to cut the seat, this helps relocate the EL if it is removed.

All I ended up with form the 22 bullets impacting the inside of the barrel was a few lead skid marks on the inside of the shotgun bore. A little Hoppe's and they cleaned right up....a lot easier than the powder fouling. I'll play with mine some more when it cools off....maybe next week if I have to have knee surgery.

You mentioned powder fouling.Since the POI shifts with varying torque on the screw that locks the EL into the barrel,a lot of people leave it in, once sighted in. A rust ring, 22 cm into the barrel is a dead giveaway that the drilling had an EL installed.

I don't know, but think not. The hot combustion gasses would likely burn it away quickly.

Checking through my file cabinet drawers, I find that I do have several EL, one 12 gauge and three 20 gauges, all 22cm "Extra". I also have a supply of replacement keys and one pair of 3mm replacement moveable pads. I sold the ELs for $100 in 1974, and I would be satisfied with that amount now, plus $7.50 for priority mailing. Steve, if you PM me your address, I'll get the pads off to you, together with some spare screws.

I don't see why a shotgun bore mop wouldn't prevent the rust ring...it would not likely damage the crown or anything, and would clean the residue and put down a new oiling, unless the hot gases are in themselves corrosive. Of course every shotshell has hot gases. Steve
