I have been shooting B&P for about a decade now with very good results. On "Hallowell's Shot Size Chart" it shows European Shot is the same as US Shot. Does anyone know this is a fact? I shoot a lot of 7 shot and 6 shot and it shows they are the same.....not true with the English loads.

At the bottom is the Shot Size Table
http://www.bandpusa.com/reference.html

I spoke with the folks at Kaltron several years ago and was told that shells sold in the U.S. were marked with U.S. shot sizes. I cut open the MB Classic shell marked 4, and they were U.S. 5s.

No, Italian shot is not the same. Their #7 is essentially the same but, the #6 and #5 and #4 are just slightly smaller than US sizes. Example: their #6 run 241 to the ounce versus US 225 to the ounce. Nominal and variable of course but I have found their numbers to be correct. Go to the B&P USA website and click on Product Info, Reference Materials and then Cartridge Guide. On the left is a comparison of US vs Italian shot sizes.

Having done pellet counts and compared Brit 6's to American 7's, I agree with the Eley information that the former are slightly larger and not as many/ounce. Fairly close but not twins, as some charts indicate.

Drew, I've had the same experience you've had with foreign shells. They may say that the shells they sell in the US are American shot sizes, but I always check--and it's hit or miss.

And all that would make a difference just how???

I mean, get serious. You want 5's and get 9's could be a prob. You want 7's and get 7.33's or 6.89's and that could be a prob? BFD!

You should worry more about the shade of blue the sky is. Like I do.

just a thot

have a day

Well, if you're shooting patterns and figuring %'s to see how they compare to the choke marked on the barrel or choke tube, and if you're shooting Brit 6's rather than American 7's, it's kinda nice to know that you're only starting out with 270 pellets rather than 300. Throws your math into a cocked hat if you're 10% off right out of the box.

I am sorry guys, but really isn't Wonko more right than wrong. Dead is dead and I can't believe a dead bird knew whether he was hit by a load of 6s or 4s. Now wounded birds might know you didn't kill him, but I doubt that he knew what size shot you hit him with.

Hunting behind good dogs, I really have found no need to concern myself with what size shot was contained in the shells I stuffed into my pocket, so much as I needed to concern myself that they were indeed the right length and gauge. A difference of 30 to 50 pellets to the ounce is really not much difference.
