Where did he say how many shells he shot in his post? All he said was that his barrels were getting hot that's all and will that effect his old shotgun. He didn't say anything about how many shots he took, did he?
I took five shots with a Winchester to sight it in and left it sit for awhile in the sun, you could fry an egg on the barrel.

There's hot from sitting in the sun and then there's hot from shooting. OP was talking about using the gun on the dove opener, so it's probably a safe conclusion that he was planning to shoot it rather than just sit there with it.
