I've got a bunch of old 16 ga. 6s in one ounce loads. I will give them a workout this winter, during the late season here.
Mike, while pigeons are considerably bigger than doves they also take a lot more killing. Pigeons are just plain tough. topgun stated that he believed that one #6 pellet will put down a dove almost every time. I do not doubt that, but I know it won't a pigeon. IMO, if the load of 6s will put down a pigeon, it won't let a dove through.

I will agree- so if I am using a side-by-side for "flying poopsters" choked M&F-- I use a light load of No. 0 in the first tube, and a heavier Trap Handicap load of &71/2 shot in the left (full tube) I also use that same combination for preserve pheasants with close working pointing dogs, except I go to No. 9 skeet loads in the first barrel-- for spookier planted birds, with flush dogs, I go to a 7&1/2 Handicap Trap load in the right barrel and a 3& 18--dram 1 & 1/8 ounce RST no 6 Pigeon load in the left tube-- but any large game or pest taken fully in the head and neck from a full choked 12 bore with finer shot will die-right now!!!
