Unless something is escaping me here; there's wood on both sides of the action on shotguns. If you store yours muzzle down what to prevent extra oil from running from the action right into the forearm area?
I don't have an ax to grind here and I honestly think storage just boils down to someone's personal preference. My preference is butt down and in over 50 years I've never had a problem with oil getting into a stock head. As I've stated before; I'm stingy with the oil and only use it for internal lubrication. The exteriors of my firearms are waxed. I do however think over lubricating is a potential problem no matter how they are stored.
To give you an Arizona analogy; I don't worry about drowning in a dried out Wadi. However I'm out of one of these in a heartbeat when a Monsoon hits! wink
