Such bullsh*t. Anyone who leaves a gun sopping with oil that can run down into the wood is an idiot anyway. Store them muzzle down if you don't know better than to squirt or spray oil into the action and solvent in the bores.
This ain't rocket surgery. JR You know Mr. Roberts, down in the deep south of Mississipi where you live, it is brutally hot and quite humid. Only an idiot who lives there wouldn't spray a little oil on their guns from time to time. Now, are you the idiot or are you the rocket 'surgeon' ?? Personally, I'm suspecting.......given your statements here and your known fondness of and dealings with those Clowns at CSMC.

I store them muzzle down.
I don't soak them in oil but I rub an oily rag over them.

Muzzle down in a rack makes it easier to view the pretty part of the gun besides the oil problem previously discussed. Either way you've got to be careful moving them around in a crowded safe to prevent banging either the barrels or butts together. Six one, half dozen the other.
When handling other people's shotguns I am amazed how much oil and grease they've often applied. I guess the rationale is "if a little is good a bunch must be better". A thin, almost invisible coating is all that is needed in virtually every case. Remember, grease and oil are traps for dirt and grime to grind away on metal parts.
Disagreement is one of the joys of freedom.

Hi all, for me, muzzle down, can't hurt. I use Eezox, and as many of you know dries without any residue or film . No problem with oil soakage with this product.
Best!

For short term storage I use a light coat of Rem Oil in the bores & a wipe down with Rig on the exterior. For long term storage I use Rig in the bores as well as the exterior. I've never found Rig to run on any occasion
The reason for Rem Oil in guns that I'm going to be using is that if I forget to put a patch through the bbl before shooting it's not a problem.
By light coat of Rem Oil I mean a little sprayed on a patch & pushed through the bore once & pulled back out at the breech end. I have found that even with this light application assembled guns stored muzzle up will have a trace of Rem Oil on the breech face within a few days from drainage down the bbls & that can't be good in the long run as it will eventually migrate down to the wood. I don't know if this is true with all light oils but it's muzzle down storage for me or guns broken down & stored in their case.

I store mine both ways, when I ran out of rack spaces in the vault, I started standing them muzzle down, between the muzzle up ones.Oil should be wiped on, not sprayed(spray it onto the rag instead). Mike

For someone who cannot grasp a play on words with the overused "rocket science/brain surgery" phrase, it certainly sounds like you've figured out how to over-lubricate a firearm, Buzz. This thing about storing guns muzzle down to prevent oil from seeping into the head of the stock and ruining the wood is wasted time and effort, as far as I'm concerned. It's a stupid thing to spray or squirt oil into the action of a gun. It gathers dirt and builds up crud, and eventually gets into the wood regardless of how it's stored. How dang difficult is that to understand? If I stepped on your toes by pointing out the obvious, please allow me to offer my deepest apologies. Peace, man. And what any of this has to do with what little business I've done with Connecticut Shotgun is beyond me. JR

I recently sprayed some Rem Oil (not a ton) into the action of a Pre-64 Model 12 that is practically new and it really smoothed up the action. Was this a stupid thing to do JR? No, it was brilliant. Spray some more in it. JR No John, not all of your belittling and condescending statements are directed at me, but this one clearly was. I guess practically everyone on this board is a dumbass but you, eh.
