Actually, the "interest" is the $300 discount...
What I found innovative (boarding on ingenious, really) was the offer of a $300
discount for a "priority delivery date". If anything, you'd expect to pay a premium to be moved to the head of the line, or in this case, ahead of those who placed a deposit only.
This is a unique market. Nobody ordering their
very first shotgun would be willing to wait 6-24 months for delivery, but we all have other toys to keep us occupied. (Obviously some have more patience than others.)
When Ferrari comes out with a new, sexy, rather limited run supercar, buyers can't write the checks fast enough. There's no incentive for priority delivery dates, just the desire to have one.
If Tony Galazan had required payment in full without knocking off $300, or required a $300 premium for priority delivery, I suspect his new offering wouldn't have been nearly as popular.
Communication certainly could have (should have) been better, but I commend Mr. Galazan for an ingenious marketing strategy, and thank him for taking the risk (and the flack) with the RBL.
After 5 months and maybe 6 flats of shells through mine, I like it more every day.
