I have seen the stockhead crossbolt on a bunch of boxlocks (Parker, Fox, Merkel, J.P. Sauer, BWS, Husqvarna, etc.) , a crank of the stockhead ls a very common event. The factory installed crossbolts that I have seen were small and not real obvious,ie. ugly to look at, when you look at the gun its the first thing that calches your eye.
I have repaired many cracked stockheads, the repair can be done and be alost impossible to see by covering the bolthead with a walnut plug covering it om both sides of the stock.
The HVA model 310 was developed in 1910 and was in production until about 1950. To my way of thinking they are wonderful shotgun, well balanced, eye pleasing to look at. Al the inside parts are highly polished and hand fitted, whats not to like?
I have a HVA model 34 that dates to the 1880s, Jones type cam lockup, also a model 43 dating in the 1890s, no sousce code on either gun. I have read that the sidlock models 200 & 300, plus their Drilling were sourced from J.P. Sauer in the white and finished at the Husqvarna factory.
