Why take a deposit and then give it back when the customer changes his mind? Why not just take a verbal 'I'll have one of those' as a deposit instead?

Surely a deposit is a confirmation that you are committed to the deal and if you renage, you lose it. As far as I'm concerned if you pay a deposit and the manufacturer meets his side of the deal he is entitled to keep it whether or not you pay up for the balance.

I think you should give Salopian another star for that bit of plain takling!

Of course,if you are still waiting for a gun 13 months after a 12 month delivery promise, you are entitled to your cash back if you wish.
