Rocket, what you say makes complete sence ...and you are right in my view, that there are would be questions . Anyway, digesting all of this puts the price in the vicinity....I was suppose to get the weapon yesterday....but Cabelas placed it for delivery on Tuesday...so it will arrive today according to tracking, and , as I stated, will take pictures and reshedule the Hutton trip.
Just a comment...it seems that atleast on GI you have long lists of guns for sale in the $30,000 plus range in the Purdey, H&H and Boss, ,to name just these.....they sit on the site for a long time...I , personally wonder how much of an investment they really are? I think I am glad that most of my money, as a retired guy is in an Annuity...that is paying me monthly income including a pension. So for wealthy guys , I suppose, a couple Purdeys in the Safe is good for investment diversification...but when you consider true value, and not market illusion...the $7,000 for a nice gun, that I hope will shoot well and which barrels , although not in the cache, serve my shooting motives, may in fact be just as well made as being made from the same maker....and safe to shoot....( also taking into consideration comments from the thread on the 21 st century workmanship).
I am starting to think that if you bought a new Purdey for $100,000..... Wait 20 years , if you are alive, or place it in your estate...you will not get $200,000 for it and it will not be easy to liquidate.....it seems that perhaps the true investment is really only a hedge against other investments but still subject to the vagaries of Market dynamics. I say this only from my experiences as a retired General Counsel of a large Boston Mutual fund complex...the 100 pounds paid in 1890 was still more than a years wages or salary for regular guys....so where is the uptick? Just think, if ,for the sake of argument what 100 pounds would be worth today in a simple interest bearing account....maybe over $700,000...... Not $7000. But then again...where is the Fun in that!( wink)
