That is a beautiful rifle in any league, but going to pick on it. Sure looks like a Maple stock, very close grain for walnut which would be expected on English. Inletting is excellent but not superb as usually seen on high quality English firearms. Could this be an excellent American re-stock of an English rifle? Expect to be refuted, but a really fine rifle. Really like the finish on the trigger guard.

I suppose that what you say could be possible, but when I look at it in person I don't see what you seem to see. If it was restocked whoever did it went to the trouble to obtain the same stamp set as the person who marked the barrel or marked both the barrel and stock. Possible, but i think that is unlikely.

If the stamp in the stock matches the stamp on the barrel, then my supposition is probably incorrect. If the stock is walnut, it is excellent quality. Wonder if the English imported some maple to help sell rifles to the American market. Beautiful rifle.
