The two-screw or one-screw in the trigger guard tang is a time period thing.

I have read that Remingtion licensed the A&D patent from Westley Richards. The double bite locking lugs were used in the late 1890 on a small number of guns per Semmer. Below is a picture of the wrist area of my beautiful 1894. It also has the double bite lugs and was made in 1898 Just added a couple more of the 1894. All original, never refinished. No. E. Remington & Sons had the U.S. license for the Deeley & Edge forearm lever fastening and began using it with their Model 1879 hammer double. Its use continued, well after the license expired, through Remington Arms Co.'s hammer double, aka Model 1889. Parker Bros. lever forearm fastening is not Deeley & Edge, it is a Charles King design and patent.
Harrington & Richardson had the U.S. license for the Anson & Deeley action and built some very fine hammerless doubles on the second floor of their factory for a few years during the infancy of hammerless doubles. Soon found they could use that factory space to much greater finacial benefit to build cheap revolvers. The A & D patent was well expired by the time Remington Arms Co. introduced their hammerless doubles.

Researcher and Daryl, is part number 25 in the 1908 Remington Parts diagram the A&D patented cocking block?

Another difference between the Model 1894 and 1900 is the fitting of the barrels to the receiver. With the action closed the fit of barrel to receiver will be flush on an 1894, on a Model 1900 the breech balls are usually wider than the barrels.

All Remington SxS's came with the double bit locking lugs. My 73, 82, and 89 have them. And all my Remingtons have pattern damascus barrels except the 89, and that has the twist. The 94 C grade has the "etoile" [ star ] pattern and the most beautiful wood I've ever seen on any gun. A friend has a 94 B grade with the chain pattern that I'd almost kill to get. And as far as damascus barrels being a " deal breaker " - I won't buy a Parker or Remington that doesn't have damascus barrels. They're a work of art and I shoot nitro loads in all of them.

I'm at our place in Kodiak, AK, 3000 road miles away from my research materials and shotguns. I dug through my photos on this computer, and found this one of my 1906-vintage 12-gauge CEO-grade with the one-screw trigger guard backstrap -- I scrounged this picture of a bit earlier two-screw BE-Grade 10-gauge LeRoy Merz has listed on Gunsinternational -- Though obviously restocked, it does show the two-screw feature. And, a two-screw Model 1900 -- one-screw Model 1900 --

I recently got to make a new buttstock for a 1894. The customer snapped the stock at the wrist, then tried to repair it himself using jb weld...if done proffesionally the stock could have been saved. During the restocking I was surprised at the overall quality of the 1894, it would make a great action for a custom project. I intend to do one for myself, maybe even making a new set of rifle barrels for it. The old stock...I had nothing to do with.
