I picked this up off of gunbroker the other week, it
arrived yesterday. It is a very early Jaeger sidemount.
I've seen one in a picture in an article by Michael Petrov.

The lever rotates downward to unlock it

The spring to lock the lever is interesting

The base looks fairly straightforward to reproduce

And here are the markings on the top

I like the look of the long single lever and the lines of the rings, all around good looking mount.

I like the windage adjustment. My Jaegars are not so equipped.

Do you have an idea of manufacturing date for this design?

From an undated catalog marked "Catalog 35".

Michael,
Can you venture a guess on the date?
If I was looking for a side mount circa 1924 or before what would you suggest?

I have a 1924 "Sequoia" M&S that if I put mounts on it then I would want the correct vintage.

Any help is appreciated

Fred, thanks for the PM info.

Sorry I'm not much good at guessing. Franz Jaeger moved from New York City sometime after 1901 returning to Suhl, he has a USA patent as Franz Jäger (German spelling) from 1906 with a Suhl address.

I know of a S.R. Griffin with this mount on it so that would would put it before 1923 if the mount was installed the same time the rifle was made.

I did not do a lot of research on "Franz Jäger" but spent my time on the son Paul. Maybe one of the students of German guns has other Jager catalogs and can date this mount.

It's interesting to me that the cut from the catalog shows this mount on a custom 1903 Springfield.
