I recently picked up a 12ga Husqvarna 103cs hammer gun choked xxf/xxf, and it puts both barrels exactly dead on to poa, from 20 yds to 40 yds. Loaded with 1 1/2oz. of nice shot, those xxf tubes put an incredibly lethal ink blot of shot on paper. I only mention this with regards to convergence issues. Some sxs's have problems with this, and some do not. If it were me in search of such a specialized tool, I wouldn't settle on any particular gun until I've had a chance to pattern it, regardless of how much it weighs.
Great info, Mark. And I am certainly well aware of the likely difficulties of barrel convergence, and only solved the problem with my cheap Yildiz by installing eccentric chokes. But the problem with buying another new gun is that nobody is gonna let me pattern it before buying. I was hoping that someone on here could tell me that X-gunmaker would make me a gun to my specifications. Apparently, such a guy doesn't exist.
>>>My SxS turkey gun is a Western Arms Long Range 16 ga. It has 30" barrels choked F&F. Patterns great with 1.25 ozs. of 6s. and Kent Matrix 6s if I hunt on Federal WPAs. I would think they are out there in 12s if one looks. Mine was in the 95+% condition and I paid $300 for it and wouldn't sell it for twice, awesome duck SxS with Kent Matrix.<<<
I haven't seen one of those; thanks for the info!
