OK. I understand. It's a form of a "set trigger" which is activated by pushing forward on the trigger to be set, making it then a "hair" trigger which takes only a light touch to fire the rifle. I will check this out late May when I am again at home.

Yes, that's it! Very common on combined guns.
I'm curious too about the shooting abilities with slugs.
Normally the two tubes should hit together on about 35 meters!
Try it! :-)

Gunwolf,

The two barrels are shotgun and rifle. Are you forgetting that I do NOT have the (original) barrel set with 2 O/U shotgun barrels? To address a point not yet investigated, the shotgun barrel is smooth bore, correct (not rifled)?

Yes, I do not forget! Nevertheless you can put a slug (in Germany often called "Brenneke" after it's inventor)16/70 or 16/67,5 in the smooth bore of YOUR Gun. You will see, it is fine up to 35 meters. (so wie have a Double Rifle for Wild Boar on driven hunts here in Germany. It works, I did it!

You are saying that it is customary in Germany to hunt wild boar in driven hunts (as opposed to a "stand" where you sit still in a hidden place and wait) and you oftentimes use a combo gun with rifle and slug, slug for close up (typically up to 35 meters) and rifle for the longer shots. Sounds like a lot of fun to me!!! (Do I understand correctly? By the way, your English is excellent, especially compared to my German. All I can say in German is "Sauer Kraut" and "Heil Hitler" and a few other things learned on the 1960s TV comedy series, "Hogan's Heroes" - HA! Here's a link for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogan's_Heroes)

It is a lot of fun!!! You understand exactly! A combo is nice, because first comes the Fox (Shot) and then the boars (Slug) and the Rifle does the distance....

Of course many hunters have a bolt rifle, but often they miss the Fox ;-)

Forget to say Heil H...... Better you say, what german hunters say to each other when coming together or after having shot a game or simple as greetings: Waidmannsheil! (Means Congratulations to the Hunter, or all the best hunting for you)
Hunter = Waidmann

OK?

Good advice....thanks. Is it pronounced WADE MAN SHE'LL?

WADE "like wade knee-deep in the lake"

MAN "like man, as opposed to woman"

SHE'LL "like short for 'she will'"

With accent on the first syllable?

NO, SORRY, IT'S NOT EASY:

Waid=old word for german "Wild"= Game (animals)

Mann=man

Heil= the same as in Heil Hitler = salvation, here it means Good hunting!
pronounce: whitemunshile, better look here :

http://dict.leo.org/ende/index_de.html#/...rdShowSingle=on

and click on the "info" button on the left and then on "Aussprache" for hearing a woman saying "Waidmannsheil"
...your German becomes better... ;-)

next lesson: if you have shot nothing, you answer "Waidmannsheil" as well, only if you have shot yourself anything you may answer: "Waidmannsdank" that means "Thank you" pronounced: whitemunsdunk on the last syllable.

Now you are a perfect hunter ;-)
The idea isas follows: If I meet another hunter and I don't want to ask him if he was successful in hunting (that is not polite because he may have to answer "no") I only say "Waidmannsheil". Now he answers either "Waidmannsheil" what means, he shot nothing, or "Waidmannsdank" and now I can ask him what!!!!

It#s a little bit complicated, but it is part of a special language grown over the centuries in Germany.
Hope I do not bore you!

Waidmannsheil,
Gunwolf
