I've got your gun, or I should say, my kid has your gun. We only shoot 1oz loads through it though. 5#7oz of turkey devastation. IC/IM 26" barrels.

Are you stuck on the alloy receiver? If the weight was where you wanted it, why not a steel receiver?

Exactly...an unneeded monstrosity at that.

It's an abomination to mount a sight on a SxS.

If you can't see to shoot something as big as a turkey with a bead you should stay on the porch.

FishnFowler, thanks for the advice and those are great pics! What kind of gun is that?

I am not stuck on an alloy receiver, I just didn't think it would be possible to get the weight down to 5 lbs without going that route. I really like your son's little gun, and please tell him I said congrats on the gobblers! But I don't think I could get used to the straight stock. I handle mine like a handgun a lot using the pistol grip, and I wouldn't want to get away from it.

Thanks again for the post!

>>>If you can't see to shoot something as big as a turkey with a bead you should stay on the porch.<<<

Well, Joe, I could just stay on the porch, but I hope to be able to hunt a few more years and I don't mind taking advantage of modern technology to do it. And I could probably still kill a good many turkeys with a bead sight, but there is no doubt that I would eventually make a bad shot and wound one. There is nothing in the woods as sad as a wounded gobbler, and I'll sacrifice tradition in order to avoid it.

At least I don't use scopes with magnification. Both of my turkey guns have holo-type sights that just have a red dot. You wanta see something sad, take a look at this guy that I found on the Nitro Ammunition site. Not only has he resorted to a modern, expensive shotgun and the most powerful commercial ammo available, but he has put a high-dollar Swarovski scope on a turkey gun! Talk about a guy needing to be on the porch, this character should just hang it up. With a rig like this, its obvious his intention is to snipe turkeys at ridiculous ranges. I wonder if he knows that those Nitro 4x5x7 shells actually have a whole bunch of shot in them that would actually be classified as #9 shot? He must not know that; I heard that he said only stupid people would shoot a turkey with #9 shot. smile

Just kidding with you, Joe. I wish you all the best. Keep giving those calls to folks that need them.

Well, its looking more and more like the gun I want doesn't exist and there is nobody who could make one. I guess I'll just have to be content with the Yildiz. Its not quite my idea of the perfect gun, but I'm not the perfect hunter, so I guess we will live with each other's faults.

A good day to all of you!

One man's idea of a perfect turkey gun??
You know, sometimes they hang up just a bit out of range.

I've found a Fausti that is Italian made and might be a decent gun. It weighs 5.75 lbs with 26" barrels. It does have double triggers, but also a straight stock. It is nib, but was originally imported by Traditions.

I'd have to spend a lot of money customizing it to make it into a turkey gun, but it might work. Anyone familiar with these? The price is low enough that I could buy it and shoot it to test the POI with the turkey shells. Looks like a nice enough gun that it would just be worth keeping for a bird gun if it won't shoot the heavy loads straight.

Is there anyone that would make me an American style pistol grip stock for it if I decided to make it a turkey gun? The quality of the wood wouldn't make much difference since it will get a camo skin anyway. I dunno if anyone even does such work.

Thanks for any help.

LOL - I probably will just use the one I have. The 22" would be before adding on the turkey chokes, which would extend it back to close to 24". Or 23", or somewhere thereabouts. If somebody would make one to my specs, then I would tell them 24". The exact length of the barrels isn't a big issue. I've got a sack full of chokes made on the Tru-choke system, so I wouldn't have to buy any more if I have to cut one down and rethread. The Fausti would have to be chopped off, but its an $800 gun, so maybe that won't give anyone a heart attack. wink
