It's head stamped V C 1886 This is a rimmed case 57mm long with an overall length of 75mm. It is a rimmed bottleneck with a paper patched bullet diameter of 11mm. It may in fact be a 43 Spanish (Rolling block) round but I'm not sure. Can someone id it? Jim The 2nd Amendment IS an unalienable right.

Both these cartridges have cases longer than 57mm but that includes the rim thickness and I could not tell if your measurement did. Mike

There are 4 of these cartridges in a bunch of obsolete ammo I bought awhile back. I have been trying to build my own reference library of obsolete big bore cartridges. I will agree at this point that it looks like the images I can find of a 43 Mauser. Jim The 2nd Amendment IS an unalienable right.
